Joseph Scott began playing the guitar in his teens, passing through the usual stages of folk and rock music, eventually gravitating to classical guitar after taking a degree in English from University of Massachusetts, Amherst (May 1973). Following more attempts at self-instruction and work with private teachers, he enrolled in Boston Conservatory, graduating with honors in 1985. He began teaching at the Cape Cod Conservatory in 1987, and has continued to perform on the Cape and in the Boston area on guitar and lute, as a soloist and chamber musician. Mr. Scott is also an experienced choral singer and has performed with the choir of St. Peter’s Church Osterville, the Spectrum Singers of Boston, and the Longy Chamber Singers.
Mr. Scott began to study Suzuki method for guitar instruction in 1998 and continues to apply it successfully on Cape Cod, having taught a number of students from grade school through high school. He currently maintains a busy teaching schedule at the Cape Cod Conservatory in Falmouth and in Barnstable, The Joy of Music Program, Worcester and Worcester State University, and most recently at South Shore Conservatory in Hingham, MA; he resides in his home town of Milford, MA with his wife Jenny, and son, Joseph. |
